Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. A review, and a review of the reviews.

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I saw Ben Stein’s new movie, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, over the weekend and it was not only good, it was moving. I definitely suggest you see it even if you don’t believe in the notion of Intelligent Design, but have an open mind. I’ll give you my full review in a moment, but first let’s review the reviews from totally unbiased and apolitical newspapers:

“One of the sleaziest documentaries to arrive in a very long time, “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” is a conspiracy-theory rant masquerading as investigative inquiry.” - The New York Times

“A hard-core, fundamentalist bit of right-wing propaganda… sending Ben Stein out to do deadpan interviews of a grab-bag of experts and wack jobs…” - The Minneapolis Star Tribune

“Expelled” relies on the viewer’s inability or unwillingness to wrestle with a complex corner of science, double-talking its way toward a “must be a miracle” solution to anything that science cannot claim to have an answer for.” - The Kansas City Star

Who says newspapers are left-wing liberal organizations? It’s not obvious or anything! (Insert sarcasm here.)

It Doesn’t Matter if Barack Obama is Muslim or Not… He’s still a Liberal!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

There has been a great deal of political correctness controversy surrounding those who associate Barack Obama with being a Muslim. Take this story for instance.

For the record, Obama says that he is a Christian who attends Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Based on what we know now about that church (and its former pastor) maybe he’d be better off claiming he was a Muslim!

How Low Can Hollywood Go? 9/11 Comedies…

Friday, April 18th, 2008

How sick and twisted do you have to be to make a 9/11 comedy? Pretty sick if you ask me.
I have stated many times how I believe the War on Terror and the Culture War are intertwined. I believe this latest move by Hollywood movie producers will not only mock a horrific tragedy that happened on American soil, but it will also inflame the Muslim world as well and add fuel to the fire of the radical Jihadists that hate America. The loony left continues to attack America from the inside while enabling America to be a bigger target for outside attacks.

Post-Sept. 11 ‘comedies’ coming soon

The conflict in Iraq may go on for years, but it appears the end is nigh for Hollywood’s ponderous, heavy-handed treatment of the war on terror. That’s because most new movies about the subject this season are lowbrow and cringe-inducing comedies.

Over the next few weeks, theaters will be screening far-out fare such as an Osama bin Laden documentary by the maker of “Super Size Me”; an absurdist slam against merchants of war featuring John Cusack; a zombie soldier flick with XXX star Jenna Jameson; a stoner movie about Guantanamo Bay; and a Sept. 11 parody — yes, parody — made by Uwe Boll, a little-known filmmaker often ridiculed as the worst director in Hollywood since Ed Wood.

Just how off-the-wall is the genre getting? Over the past six months, filmgoers have been turned off by overearnest snoozers (“Lions for Lambs,” “A Mighty Heart”), low-budget losers (“Redacted”) and far worse.

With the arrival of a half-dozen comedies, however, the post-Sept. 11 movie has quite possibly reached a new low.

Consider Boll’s “Postal,” opening nationwide May 23. Touted as a “shock comedy,” the film begins by depicting the Sept. 11 hijackers making moronic comments about the paradise that awaits them. The film is likely to offend just about everyone with its premise that includes “a gang of bosomy commandos [who] face off against Osama bin Laden and the Taliban in an epic battle that will determine the fate of the world.” Since its opening cockpit sequence was first promoted on YouTube last May, it has been viewed more than two million times.

Starring Zack Ward of “Transformers” and Kids in the Hall comic Dave Foley, the self-described “outrageous political and social satire” also features Larry Thomas as bin Laden (he portrayed the Soup Nazi on “Seinfeld”) as well as Verne Troyer, the dwarf best known as “Mini-Me” in the Austin Powers series.

Hopefully Americans will avoid these movies at the box office and send a message to Hollywood. If you really want to support a movie, I’d recommend Ben Stein’s new movie Expelled. It hits theaters today and I plan on seeing it!

Could Al Gore Endorse John McCain? Nah…

Friday, April 18th, 2008

So I was thinking… maybe Al Gore can decide this election. Let’s play a game of Six Degrees of Separation. We don’t even need six degrees, all we need is two!

It’s no secret that John McCain believes wholeheartedly in the doctrine of the First Church of Man-Made Climate Change, Reverend Gore presiding. It’s also well documented how close John McCain is to Senator Joe Lieberman. That’s the same Joe Lieberman who ran for vice president on the Democratic ticket with Pope Gore the First.

Is it really that much of a stretch of the imagination to think Al Gore could side with John McCain? If Hillary Clinton is the nominee for the Democrats he might even have some inspiration! Somewhere in the back of his head I bet Gore blames Bill Clinton for screwing up and creating a PR nightmare during his last year in office, which may have played a part in costing Gore the election.

You realize of course if this happened, it would be totally in the liberals best interests. It would continue the trend of the Republican party moving to the left. It’s a total nightmare scenario for conservatives who wouldn’t know what to do at that point.

On the one hand you’ve got ultra-left Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. On the other hand you’ve got John McCain who is so ‘moderate’ that he almost joined the Democratic party after the 2000 election. Lately though, John McCain has been trumpeting his conservative principles. Whether they’re true or not, it’s still a good thing that he’s at least acknowledging the strong conservatives in the party.

Fortunately my far fetched theory won’t happen. Al Gore would never endorse a Republican (not even John McCain) even if it would be a nice strategic move to thwart conservatives in the Republican party and move it further to the left.

I’m still crossing my fingers that John McCain is going to pick a solid conservative to run as vice president. I think conservatives are begging for McCain to (in the words of Dr. Evil) “Throw me a bone!”

I think it’s great that McCain can get along with Democrats like Lieberman and even guys like Feingold and Kennedy. Getting along is fine. Sharing the same positions or compromising is unacceptable. Even if some of these Democrats are ready to get some work done, it doesn’t matter a lick if it’s out of step with the sweeping moral issues of our times.

I’m talking about addressing the American holocaust (abortion), traditional marriage, First Amendment rights (protecting the right of believers of God in the public square), and yes the issue of taxes (the right to keep the fruits of your labors).

If these politicians aren’t protecting our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness then what are they doing? OK - I’m done with my rant.

So back to my original point… Will Father Gore make a presidential endorsement? I dunno, maybe he’ll endorse Ralph Nader! Now that would be fun.

Moral Depravity

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

There are plenty of examples of moral depravity in our society and culture. This one may be the worst I’ve ever heard. If anyone doubts we are in a culture war, read this story from the Yale Daily and think again.

For senior, abortion a medium for art, political discourse

Art major Aliza Shvarts ‘08 wants to make a statement.

Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself “as often as possible” while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.

The goal in creating the art exhibition, Shvarts said, was to spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body. But her project has already provoked more than just debate, inciting, for instance, outcry at a forum for fellow senior art majors held last week. And when told about Shvarts’ project, students on both ends of the abortion debate have expressed shock . saying the project does everything from violate moral code to trivialize abortion.

But Shvarts insists her concept was not designed for “shock value.”

“I hope it inspires some sort of discourse,” Shvarts said. “Sure, some people will be upset with the message and will not agree with it, but it’s not the intention of the piece to scandalize anyone.”

The “fabricators,” or donors, of the sperm were not paid for their services, but Shvarts required them to periodically take tests for sexually transmitted diseases. She said she was not concerned about any medical effects the forced miscarriages may have had on her body. The abortifacient drugs she took were legal and herbal, she said, and she did not feel the need to consult a doctor about her repeated miscarriages.
