John McCain attacks conservatives for being ‘out of touch with reality.’

April 25th, 2008 | by Andy Barnett |

John McCain, the presumptive presidential nominee from the Republican party lambasted conservatives in his own party this morning for ‘being out of touch with reality’. McCain attacked leadership in the North Carolina Republican Party which ran an ad linking state politicians with Barack Obama.

Here’s the ad…

I don’t know about you, but I’m a little upset at John McCain right now. I don’t see anything particularly offensive in this ad. I see a message that resonates with a lot of people in this ad. I know that the Rev. Wright issue has been very unsettling to me, and I know many people (who might have even considered Barack Obama an intriguing candidate) who have been disgusted with the fact that Obama attended such a church for over 20 years. What’s wrong with pointing this out in a campaign ad?

How is the North Carolina Republican Party out of touch with reality for running this ad? Is Sean Hannity out of touch with reality? Is Rush Limbaugh out of touch with reality? Am I out of touch with reality?  Senator McCain seems to be out of touch with conservatives in his own party!

I’ve held my tongue for a while now on the issue of John McCain because I desperately want nothing to do with Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the White House. I was hoping John McCain would reach out to conservatives and there is evidence that he has done some of that. This however does not help his case.

The last thing McCain needs to do is upset conservatives in the Republican party. John McCain needs to quit pussyfooting around trying to please the leftwing media. He needs to quit reaching out to Democrats and start reaching out to conservatives.

John McCain may think that everything is hunky-doory, and that his road to the White House seems certain. Let me be the first to say that if he continues these types of actions he will alienate conservatives even further, and that is risky business. Many of us are less than excited about John McCain and his candidacy as it is. It won’t take much to swing conservatives from quietly supporting John McCain to not supporting John McCain at all.

Do you hear me Senator McCain or are you out of touch with conservatives like me?
