How Disgraceful: Washington Nationals Fans Boo the President of the United States.

March 31st, 2008 | by admin |

How disgraceful. We’ve reached a new low in America when fans at a baseball game can’t even respect the office of the President of the United States. Seriously, it turns my stomach.

I’m not the biggest fan of everything that George W. Bush has done or failed to do, but I sure as heck respect the man as the leader of our nation. What has he done to deserve this sort of treatment? This behavior is a symptom of a nation with problems. People often like to point to the treatment that Bill Clinton got by conservatives during his last days in office. Bill Clinton broke the law! He lied under oath and he sure as heck didn’t get the kind of scathing treatment that George W. Bush gets.

George W. Bush may go down as one of the greatest leaders of our country because he guided us through the worst attack on our nation since Pearl Harbor. The War on Terror has been so successful that we have not had another attack on our homeland since 9/11. I thank God that we had George W. Bush in office these last eight years and not Al Gore or John Kerry. It’s all about being in the right place at the right time and George W. Bush has strengthened our military, taken the fight to the terrorists that attacked us, and kept America safe.

George W. Bush is also a champion of conservative values. Aside from the War on Terror his biggest hallmark will be his appointment of two strong socially conservative judges to the United States Supreme Court. Time will tell what that means, but Lord willing we’ll see an end to America’s Holocaust which begins by overturning Roe v. Wade. Bush has also led the fight to keep federal funding away from embryonic stem cell research and he’s made protecting traditional marriage a point of emphasis.

I may have some disagreements with the Bush administration but I admire much about what he’s done. I truly believe that some day history books will look back at his presidency as an important and successful one in American history.

America show some class, when you boo our Commander in Chief, you send a powerful message to the enemies of the United States of America during a time of war.

Waaahhhhh, they booed my favorite “Commander Guy”! Get over it dude. People have a right to criticize him in public.

I guess I didn’t catch the boos. At any rate, any President deserves our respect. I would be one of those who points out the horrible disrespect paid to Bill Clinton by many “Christians.” Even if he broke the law, that doesn’t mean he should be demonized the way that many have done. I think that many of Bush’s critics would allege that he committed a worse crime than Clinton in using false or unverified information to motivate us to war in Iraq.

He deserves every boo he got.

And what he has done to this country, and to what will be our children’s country, is 100 times more “criminal” than Bill Clinton ever did.

    Geez, wake up people.

Let’see… Russian Intelligence, Brittish Intelligence, and even the U.N. Security Council had decided that Hussein had weapons of mass destruction or the capability to make them. We have since discovered weapons of mass destruction in small numbers and evidence that there was more where that came from. So I don’t think that claim works any longer.

Bill Clinton did far worse by teaching the youth of our nation that adultery is cool and that there is nothing wrong with oral sex because that isn’t the same as real sex. He set a terrible example and has done far more damage in the culture war than president Bush has in protecting our nation from radical Jihadists.

Sir, you need to wake up!

You said: What has he done to deserve this sort of treatment?

Um, do ya read the newspaper? And I don’t just mean the NYTimes…ANY news, really (including Fox) and you might have a gander why people don’t like the guy as President.

This comment is not to be confused with me actually disagreeing with you. I am one of the biggest liberals I know, but I agree that the baseball diamond is a secular place. And I know I’m going to take a lot of crap for saying this, but I actually liked his ESPN commentary. Cracked me up! I had to keep rubbing my eyes that it was the same George Bush who I loathe day in and out!

In any case, hooray for DC baseball and all of the partisan politics that comes along with it. I mean, it wouldn’t be DC without it:)

Oh man, I’m so gonna boo you if I see you in public.

Don’t be that upset, they were really chanting “Bu-urns”

Andy, Where do you get your facts from the comics? I felt bad for Bush being booed, but let’s talk about Katrina, ties to Enron and Jack Abramoff, Running up large trade deficits and budget deficits, first President to cut taxes while fighting a so-called war - Mission Accomplished - how arrogant! Why didn’t he go to the pitcher’s mound in his Captain Canaveral uniform, shrinking dollar, most corrupt administration ever with indictments of Bob Ney, Mark foley, Dick Cunningham, Tom Delay, etc. And if there were weapons of mass destruction, let’s see them. Where are they. Anybody with at least a 5th grade education knows that Bin-Laden had no ties to Hussein, since he didn’t like what he was doing to fellow Muslims. And who supplied Hussein with weapons in war against Iran in 1980’s, the Reagan administration. By the way, thank-you and your cronies for ruining this country. We should be throwing you all in prison.

“We’ve reached a new low in America when fans at a baseball game can’t even respect the office of the President of the United States. Seriously, it turns my stomach.”

How can you be certain that they were booing the office of the President and not just the current occupant?

This is what turns your stomach? Was your stomach turned when you wished death upon Barack Obama?

    ;)

  9. By Andy Barnett on Mar 31, 2008

PM - Touche! Actually, we were talking about how Obama and his aides were comparing him with JFK and my co-host made some off handed remark about how he must be dead too and there was laughing and I agreed and said I wish that were true. If you listen to the context it’s pretty clear we were being sarcastic and joking around, certainly and not seriously wishing death on anyone. I sincerely regret what I said if anyone took it as if I was actually serious.

Do you think the people who booed president Bush were joking around? I think it was outright hate. Now, they have the right to do whatever they want, but I can still find it distasteful when you’re talking about the sitting President of the United States at a non-political event like a stinking baseball game!

  10. By Political Muse on Mar 31, 2008

WHAT? You mean that you might have been taken out of context and deserve the benefit of the doubt? Hmmmm…

You know I am just messing with you. I have to show up every once in awhile and give you a hard time.

To tell the truth, I couldn’t care less what a bunch of yahoos at a baseball game do or don’t do. You can find it as distasteful as you want.

  11. By Andy Barnett on Mar 31, 2008

PM - That’s because you’re a yahoo yourself! =) If I ever make it big in radio or television, you should come be my version of Alan Colmes on the air with me!

Andy, what stands out at me about your column on the Bush booing is that you cast shame on your fellow Americans, but it doesn’t seem noteworthy to you, even with Bush’s atrocious record in office, that for the first time in the history of our country, a sitting president actually elicited boos.

There have been Republicans in the White House who’ve been unpopular with Democratic voters. There’ve been Democrats in the White House that were unpopular with Republican voters, but not on either side has this happened in our lifetime. I can’t help suggesting that you think about what that says about this one person and what he’s done to the country, and resist the temptation to demonize your fellow citizens.

    Nikki

Nikki - Unfortunately I have to criticize fellow citizens when they act irresponsible or in this case just tacky. Mind you, this is a sample of people from Washington DC at a baseball game not the entire nation. I’m not sure there would be a similar response in other places of the country, but who knows.

Unfortunately as a nation we’ve gone beyond mere partisan feelings and have become absolutely hateful toward people with different viewpoints. I’m not completely innocent of this myself, but events like this one (G.W. getting booed at a non-political venue like a baseball game) sort of get your attention and make you ask the question, have we gone too far?

they are correct in that geo w “666″ bush deserved every boo.
he is just as bad as SADDAAM, in the aspect of wanting to call WAR on everyone.
if i had been there i would have booed the loudest.
he thinks he is a bigshot to get saddaam and hasn’t caught any indication about OSAMA’s whereabouts.
ok, the attacked on WTC deserves a response, but why on such a scale that has gasoline prices on the rise because of his sorry need for revenge, that he extended to all the middle east.
he is a total bust as president cause “osama” is still on the loose, thus the war on terror IS a total bust.
i think he deserves more then impeachment and exile/prison time.

we are not any safer because soon because of the inflation he has caused, more people will be out of work. these people will not be paying taxes cause they have no income. thus the government willbe broke, and defenseless.
OUST THE BUM! he should have never been elected to a 2nd term.

When the last election in 2004, was a statement that should have been heeded by the american people,

GET THE SON OF A BUSH OF THE WHITE HOUSE ! but now the damage is done and we all paid for geo w.’s terrorism abroad.
