Today’s Movies: Hollywood Entertainment or Weapons of Mass Destruction?

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

It’s time for the Oscars, will anyone be watching? I doubt I will. Why would I join in a celebration of movies that, for the most part, do nothing but harm our culture?

Check out this commentary by former box-office star and Academy member, Pat Boone.

I’ve written about the relationship between our national security and our declining morality in the past. I think the two are inextricably linked. Why do countries around the world hate America? We claim to be a nation of high ideals and morals. We claim the higher moral ground, and yet our culture has gone down the toilet.

America influences the planet like it or not. We pollute the world with filth on the Internet, raunchy television, and trashy, gory, perverted movies. The nation which so many of us are so proud of, the one founded on Judeo-Christian values, has shirked the responsibility that comes with great power. If we are to be a shining city on a hill again we’ve got some work to do. It’s time to get to work, we’ve got a lot of buffing to do and it’s going to require some elbow grease.

NBC Broadcasts Obscenity… TWICE IN ONE WEEK!

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

Attention Culture Warriors: It’s time to let NBC and the FCC know that broadcasting indecent material is unacceptable. NBC is a network unafraid to promote the progressive version of morality when it comes to the environment, or homosexuality, but when it comes to good old traditional family values, it seems they could care less.

Last week, Jane Fonda blurted out the “c” word on live television (a crass reference to female anatomy) despite the fact that most television networks now employ time delays to avoid these kind of FCC violations (didn’t they learn anything from the Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction” at the Superbowl a few years ago?)

While that might seem like a forgivable offense (but still worthy of a fine) we find out that there was something even worse that happened last week on NBC: Full female nudity on broadcast television! The Parents Television Council has filed a complaint with NBC and the FCC because of a scene from the television show “Las Vegas” that aired last Friday featuring full female nudity. (Click here to read all about it.)

I know some people will react to this negatively. I can anticipate two negative reactions.

The first reaction some people may have is one that will be very defensive. These individuals will suggest that this is no big deal, and that people are fully capable of choosing to watch or not to watch this kind of stuff. Part of this argument is dead on. People are fully capable of choosing to watch or not watch this stuff.

The problem is, NBC is violating the law. FCC regulations are in place for a reason. They exist to protect children from being exposed to this in-your-face sexual material. How many kids are home on Friday nights watching television? Sure, parents can turn the television off, but what if the kid is over at a friends house? Can a parent watch a child 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

A full discussion about whether or not the FCC should be regulating things the way they do, or if they should be more lenient or more strict, is something worthy of a discussion all on its own. The point is, the television networks should follow the law as it is written in order to protect families.

The second negative reaction, that people will have to this story and the actions by the Parents Television Council is one of apathy. They’ll ask “what good will it do?” and “This is just another example of everything wrong in our culture and we can’t stop it.”

I’m sure there is an appropriate quote to address this common attitude. However, I can’t think of one right now, so let me make up my own:

“Inevitability is a poor excuse for not standing up for ones principles. ” - Andy Barnett

Those of us who are people of faith know that we are called to “fight the good fight” and to “run the race as if to win.” So with that said, let me encourage you to take action. Click here to fight!

National Security Should Still Inspire Voters in the General Election

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

So, the mantra of the Democrats this election season has been that 9/11 and the War on Terror is all a big fear tactic used by Republicans to maintain power in Washington. This is of course ludicrous. The War on Terror and the threat of radical Islam is as real as ever. While I could provide a mountain of evidence, why don’t we just take a look at the news.

TAMPA - A 21-year-old Clearwater man was arrested at Tampa International Airport this weekend after security personnel found a box cutter in a hollowed-out book, authorities said.

About 7:30 a.m. Sunday, airport security ran Benjamin Baines Jr.’s backpack through an X-ray machine and saw the image of a box cutter, according to a report from the Transportation Security Administration.

When searching the backpack, a security officer found a book titled “Fear Itself.” The book was hollowed out, and the box cutter was inside.

After Baines was read his rights, he said his cousin had cut away the pages to make the hollow section in the book. Later, reports state, he said he had hollowed it out himself to hide money and marijuana from his roommates.

Baines told officers he was moving to Las Vegas and forgot the cutter was in the book.
Officers found books in the backpack titled “Muhammad in the Bible,” “The Prophet’s Prayer” and “The Noble Qur’an.” He also had a copy of the Quran and the Bible.

Maybe it’s just me, but with crazies like this running around, I’d like the government to focus on protecting our nation from these types of threats! If anyone doubts the ferocity of radical Islam try asking anyone in Israel. I’m not a gambling man but, but I’d bet that there is a new plot to attack America virtually every day.

Unfortunately while the Democrats are controlling Congress they’re content to let us be sitting ducks in the War on Terror.

So, while there is plenty of focus on the presidential election, let’s not forget about the rest of the general election. Congress needs a house cleaning. We need to swing control of both the House and Senate back to leaders who care about our security!

Michael Moore to be used to feed starving Cubans!

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

So you’ve no doubt heard the news that Cuba has “changed hands” as long time dictator and all around nice guy (sarcasm) Fidel Castro has stepped down and given the country to his brother Raul Castro.

Since this has happened the mainstream media has begun pushing the idea that we should end the trade embargo against Cuba and open up relations with this communist nation. I’m not really sure why that would even be an option unless we see some major changes in the way the new dictator does business.

The whole goal of the trade embargo was to bring democracy to the Cuban people. It wasn’t a personal grudge against Fidel that kept the embargo in place all these years, it was the communist ideology and the way Cuba has treated it’s own people, the human rights violations, and it’s stance toward America that have kept us from engaging Cuba and aiding their dictatorship.

I would think it would be a great insult to the people of Cuba, especially those who have been persecuted and died or fled, to suddenly reward this horrific regime just because it has a new front man.

While we’re talking horrible people, did you hear about Michael Moore wanting to bring Fidel Castro to the Oscars? Here’s the video of that:

What is wrong with Moore? What an embarrassment to our country and to democracy. Isn’t there anyway we can take Michael Moore to Cuba and leave him their permanently? I mean, they do have a food shortage in Cuba right?

Barack Obama Has a Disturbing Anti-American Trend

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

In today’s 24-hour cable news cycle, and with thousands of Internet headlines being beamed at us day and night it’s easy to forget news stories from just a few months ago.

That’s why I feel it necessary to put together archives of related news stories from time to time. Not only is it important to be reminded of news stories that may have faded from the memory of some, but it’s also important to identify trends.

Trends tend to be pretty good predictors of the future and anytime that a massively important decision is being weighed it’s good to have as much information as possible.

That’s exactly the situation we find ourselves in right now as we’re moving closer and closer to the general election where it appears Barack Obama will be the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party. So without further adieu, I bring you a compilation of stories about Barack Obama and some of the trends we’re seeing from this man whom so many are swooning over.

Obama refuses to wear an American flag pin on his suit.

Michelle Obama says she hasn’t been proud of America.

Obama campaign office displays a flag of communist leader Che Guevara.

Barack’s mentor is a member of the Communist Party.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m beginning to see an anti-American trend here.

I’m especially disturbed by Michelle Obama’s comments about not being proud of America as an adult until now. Now I’m younger than Michelle Obama, but I can tell you that during my adult life I’ve been proud of America numerous times.

Every time I am reminded about what America did in fighting Nazi Germany in WW2 I’m proud. When I read about America abolishing slavery, fighting tyranny, standing up for human rights, and the fact that we are a nation under God, I’m overcome with the pride of being an American.

When I see free nations around the world following in America’s footsteps of Democracy, making their way down the path of liberty that was forged with the blood of Americans, I am proud to be an American!

I’m appalled that Michele Obama would make such a statement and everyone else who is proud to be an American should be troubled as well. The sad part, is this seems to be part of a trend of anti-Americanism by the Obama family.

Barack Hussein Obama is the farthest thing from the next Martin Luther King!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

What do you think of this video featuring Barack Hussein Obama? How do you think the content of this video might have been different during other historical periods? Here’s what the video could have dealt with:

Video Translation #1 (Nazi Germany): I think that the decision to execute Jews is a decision that has to be made by people and that the government should make sure they have the right to do this. If they talk with their family members, friends, and clergy about whether or not it’s OK to kill a Jew I trust that these individuals will make the best decision for themselves.

Video Translation #2 (Pre-Civil Rights America): I think the decision by individuals and communities to hang African Americans is up to them and the government should not get involved in saying what’s right or wrong. I trust members of the Klu Klux Klan to make these kind of decisions on their own and I trust that they’ll make the right decisions for themselves.

You see, it’s easy to suggest that government shouldn’t legislate individual moral choices, but the problem with that logic is it leads us down the road toward anarchy. Why have any laws at all? We wouldn’t want the government interfering with our right to do whatever we want, right? Wrong.

The simple truth is that we don’t have the right to violate the rights of another individual. One of the rights guaranteed in our constitution is the right to life. So the argument that the government is interfering with a woman’s right to choose is superseded by the individual protection of life for the unborn child. It’s really quite simple but a lot of people don’t seem to have the intellect to grasp the concept or don’t want to accept it because they get some sort of sick pleasure in being able to choose if innocent people live or die. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want a president who suffers from either of those problems.

Just something to keep in mind and consider mentioning to your pro-life Catholic friends in Minnesota who have suddenly decided to support Obama because of his amazing charisma!
