Mitt Romney deserves a second look by all true conservatives.

February 1st, 2008 | by admin |

Romney is a flip flopper. We’ve all heard it. The mainstream media runs with it. After almost every presidential debate one pundit or another will say something like it at some point during the analysis segment. The term flip flopper has a negative connotation because it reminds a lot of Republicans of John Kerry who was criticized for being a flip flopper. I’m here to tell you that Kerry’s mistake wasn’t that he was a flip flopper, it’s that he flipped to the wrong side!

Everybody is missing the whole point! Flip flopping isn’t the issue. The issue is which way did you flip? In Mitt Romney’s case he flipped to the right side! He has chosen to support life. He has chosen to support traditional marriage. Are we really going to sit around and let the man get criticized for seeing the light? Excuse me while I break into song.

“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me…
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see!”

Did Mitt Romney really have a Paul on the road to Damascus experience? I don’t know. The man says he did. I’m not going to fault him for saying he’s pro-life and pro-traditional marriage.

In fact, considering the fact that we know John McCain doesn’t say the same thing on the record, shouldn’t this be enough to make social conservatives take a hard look at Mitt Romney? He says he is the candidate for all three pillars of the Republican party. Social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, and national security conservatives. I like the sound of that.

I’m completely baffled that Americans are getting behind John McCain in droves. He doesn’t represent conservatives and there are a gazillion examples of this on the record! Mitt Romney deserves a second look and frankly I’d take him before John McCain any day of the week.

I interviewed Mitt Romney’s Policy Chairman (Vin Weber) back in September and I want to encourage voters to listen to it. Part of the American political process is being informed and making a wise personal decision on who to support. I’m more than happy to do my part!

P.S. Look for a future post on the “Huckabee & Romney conundrum” for social conservatives.

It seems you’ve done some flip flopping of your own. I just read and commented on your post outlining each of the GOP candidates. There you had it right. Romney can’t be trusted. He says whatever he needs to say at the time. Huckabee has been solidly pro-life for years and years. Don’t give up on him yet!
