Enough is enough with the Internet! Maybe we can learn something from China?!

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I plan on getting some flack for this post so go ahead and let the comments fly. Communist China might have something figured out that we need to seriously consider in the United States.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China shut down 44,000 Web sites and homepages and arrested 868 people last year in a campaign against Internet porn which will continue until the end of this year’s Beijing Olympics, Xinhua news agency said on Wednesday.

China launched a crackdown on online pornography and “unhealthy” Web content after Chinese President Hu Jintao said the country’s sprawling Internet posed a threat to social stability.

How could I possibly be open to Internet censorship!? Because I don’t think this is what the founding fathers were talking about when they declared a right to freedom of speech, thoughts, and ideas. In their eyes Internet pornography would be obscene. Obscenity is illegal for the good of the republic and the bedrock upon which it is founded: the family.

The Internet is out of control. Millions of pornography sites. Websites like Google and YouTube that allow easy access to soft-porn, hard porn, unthinkable porn, foul language, gruesome violence, and other despicable behavior is just a click away.

Filters don’t work either. Most kids can get around filters with ease. It’s time the government steps in and does something. Freedom of speech and ideas are one thing, freedom to sell obscenity to unsuspecting youth is another.

Don’t even tell me parents can truly fight this either. Parents can keep Internet out of their home all together and that’s about the only thing they can do. What about their kids friends’ houses? What about the computers at school? What about computers at the library? The list goes on.

If you think broadcast television is out of control with obscenity (and it is) the Internet is ten thousand times worse and there is no regulation!!

Something has to be done. It’s time a governing authority steps in and does what is good for the mental and moral health of the children of this nation and the world. I’m sick of it, I’m disgusted by it, and it’s time that people got angry about this and did something.

It’s time for parents, and concerned citizens alike to write their Congressmen and demand a change. If they won’t advocate change, it’s time to put someone new in office that will. This is a process that can be done, but it’s going to require the effort of the masses.

It’s going to require adults giving up their easy access rights to so called “adult material” for the time being. Can you do that for the good of mankind? Will you stand up and not only define obscenity but also really put the hammer down and ban it? Obscene language, obscene pictures, obscene videos, they all have to go. These things are rotting America’s youths brains.

It’s time we clean up the sexually perverted material in this world before it’s too late for our kids, for our families, and for our nation. The founders of this great nation believed that civic virtue was dependent upon personal virtue and that, that virtue was dependent upon Judeo-Christian values.

We must protect children and allow them to be brought up with Judeo-Christian values or we’re finished as a nation! The grand experiment will have failed. You don’t believe me? Ask George Washington.

“Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.” - George Washington

Do your duty to protect kids and protect families. The forces of evil are only concerned with moral corruption for the sake of power and money. They must be stopped and it’s time that EVERYONE put aside their petty differences, suck it up, and do something.

How the GOP should learn from The Hobbit

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I was sitting here pondering the plight of the GOP and the current factions within that seem ready to go to war with one another when I glanced over to my nightstand and there was a copy of a beloved book, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, staring at me.

Near the end of The Hobbit you might recall the following scenario: There were three factions ready to go to war with each other. The Dwarves of the lonely mountain, the wood Elves, and the Men of Dale. They were arguing over who would get Smaug’s treasure! During their argument the true forces of evil (The Goblins and the Orcs) were mustering their forces and preparing an attack.

Picture if you will Mitt Romney and his supporters representing the Dwarves who let’s say are fiscal conservatives. Then picture Mike Huckabee and his supporters representing the Elves who we’ll say rally around social moral issues. Last but not least picture John McCain and his supporters representing Men who might be concerned foremost with national security.

So here you have these three armies (which all have their unique qualities) bickering amongst themselves, ready to tear one another apart in order to win the treasure (the party nomination).

All the while, the two armies of real evil, the Goblins and the Orcs which can be represented by Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and their supporters (you decide which is which) are preparing to strike down the forces of good. This is indeed a frightening situation!

Fortunately in the book, someone got the attention of the three bickering factions.

“Halt!” cried Gandalf, who appeared suddenly, and stood alone, with arms uplifted, between the advancing Dwarves and the ranks awaiting them. “Halt!” he called in a voice like thunder, and his staff blazed forth with a flash like the lightning. “Dread has come upon you all! Alas! It has come more swiftly than I guessed. The Goblins are upon you! ”

“Come! called Gandalf. “There is yet time for council.”

What then ensued was known as the Battle of Five Armies and it was a bloody affair. In the end the good guys were victorious but only because someone got their attention and got the factions to work together.

The Democrats are upon us!

As I watch the fiscal conservatives, the social conservatives, and the national security conservatives bicker, I fear I see the party cracking!

Those of you who read this blog on a regular basis no doubt are aware of what a staunch social conservative I am. I place some of the social issues our country is facing on a much higher pedestal of importance than I do some of the other issues. Part of this is because I believe they are connected in some ways because the social issues get at the root of our nations character.

That being said, I’m realizing how important the alliance of conservatives from all different factions is to one another. We are dependent upon eachother to further our individual causes. It is my hope that whoever the nominee is we can rally behind them and support them. I am concerned that the candidates are doing too much damage to one another now, and that it will come back to bite the eventual nominee.

If you’re a social conservative like myself who has a hard time with someone like Mitt Romney because of how they’ve gone back and forth on abortion you still have to realize that if he’s the nominee he’s going to be better than a Democrat.

If you’re a fiscal conservative who is wary of Mike Huckabee and taxes, because of his record in Arkansas you still have to realize that if he’s the nominee he will be much better than the alternative the Democrats put forth.

The GOP is at war with itself, and this is dangerous. Distinction between candidates is a good thing, but I pray we don’t get so bogged down in fighting each other that we forget about the Goblins and the Orcs!

The Democrats are upon us!

What does America need? A restoration of the values our country was founded on.

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

As you well know, I’ve been a supporter of Mike Huckabee. I’ve thrown my support behind Mike because I believe America is in desperate need of a leader with character and a vision for returning our country to the traditional values on which it was founded.

We have a lot of things to be concerned about in America. We have the threat of radical Islam ready to attack us from the outside and we have the threat of radical secularists already gutting us from the inside.

There are symptoms of a sick nation which are very evident: We don’t respect life whether it be in the womb, in a persons final days, or a person stricken by mental or physical disease.

The very bedrock of life itself, the family, is being redefined by those who believe in evolving morality and relativism.

Traditionalists (who believe in moral absolutes) are being silenced and their first amendment rights are being trampled on.

It’s politically incorrect to believe in a Creator, it’s the stuff of fairy tales and it’s not allowed in the public square.

Houston, we have a problem!

If you look to the writings of our founding fathers it is evident that they believed that one of the key elements to this republic was divine providence. It is our Creator, God Himself, who grants the rights of men and women. Our nation was founded on a belief in the God of the Bible.

We were founded as a Christian nation which by definition affords freedom. The United States is a Christian democracy. At least I believe that was the intention of our founding fathers. You see Christianity is not about oppression but about freedom. It is very clear that the God of the Bible affords freedom of choice to all men and women.

There are many who will confuse what I’m saying with a Theocracy where the church governs. That is absurd and clearly not what I’m suggesting. Instead I’m saying that the institution (our nation) itself is dependent upon a belief in God. Individuals make their own choices when it comes to faith as is clearly stipulated in the First Amendment. The laws of the land are greatly influenced by the moral absolutes of the Bible. It is the foundation and history clearly shows that this is so.

In recent years, there have been many who say that the government should take a neutral position when it comes to religion. The oft referenced “Separation of Church and State” is used to justify this line of thinking. There are two critical flaws with this line of thinking.

First, the “Separation of Church and State” suggested by Thomas Jefferson does not come from the Constitution but from letters to a group of Baptists in Danbury, Connecticut. In proper context we learn that the letters were to protect the church from state involvement, not to protect the state from church involvement. It’s important to remember that the Constitution offers freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

Second, there are a slew of atheists, secular progressives, and others who suggest that government not take a stance on God. The problem is, there is no such thing as a neutral position! You either acknowledge a Creator (as our founding fathers, historical documents, national landmarks, currency, and the pledge of allegiance does) or you deny the existence of a Creator. Either way you’re choosing to take a stance. I hate to break it to all the atheists out there, but Atheism is also a religion or faith.

So these folks that get their pants all in a bunch over this issue have a couple of options. They can either turn a blind eye to historical evidence for our country being founded on a belief in God or they can start talking about an evolving republic. They can change history, change our constitution, change the foundation of this great nation.

My friends, that scares me. We need someone who not only stamp out this sort of nonsense, but also someone who will restore Christian character and values to our nation. I think Mike Huckabee will do this. I think Mike Huckabee can usher in more of the divine providence which our country desperately needs to fight some of the fights we’re going through.

If we are to continue to be a shining city on a hill we must act responsibly. With the freedom we’ve been afforded comes great responsibility and our culture as a whole has been failing miserably in this.

Why do you think the rest of the world looks on America with contempt? Perhaps one reason is they see the hypocrisy. Here you have a nation full of so called “Christians” who deny moral absolutes, denigrate the family unit, and show no respect for life. If we’re going to say we’re the moral authority for the world we had better start to act like it don’t you think?

Now I know that doesn’t describe everyone in America, but it’s what other nations see from our movies, our music, our TV, and the rest of our pop culture.

We’ve got to get to the root of our problems in America. We’ve got to return to the absolute Christian values that we were founded on. During these trying times I believe our country needs a shepherd and a communicator and I believe Mike Huckabee is qualified for this important role.

There are plenty of things that concern Americans. Illegal immigration and protecting our borders, keeping the government out of our pocketbooks, the fight against radical Islam, health care costs, education, and the list goes on and on. These are all very important issues that need to be addressed, but I believe the moral issues trump these others. If we address our moral condition first, I believe God will bless us and give us the wisdom and strength to address these other pressing issues.

I’ve heard comments about how people don’t like Mike Huckabee because he wears his religion on his sleeve. These same people would really have a problem with folks like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin Roosevelt! They weren’t afraid to wear their religion on their sleeves either. They weren’t afraid to talk about God and how important He is to our nation.

Honestly shouldn’t we actually be MORE concerned about someone who says they are something but doesn’t live out their beliefs? I kind of find it refreshing that someone is authentic about what they believe and I think America needs that in their leader.

The other comment I hear is that Mike is running as an identity politician. He’s the evangelical Christian candidate. I hear it compared with Hillary running as the woman candidate or Barack Obama running as the black candidate. Unlike being a woman or being black, becoming a born again Christian requires a choice. It’s a life changing decision that once made dictates the way you think, the things you say, and the things you do.

All signs point toward Mike Huckabee being a man who will humble himself before God, and help get our country back on the right track. That’s why I like Mike.
