Why I like Mike in 2008!

I have endorsed Mike Huckabee because he’s a Christian traditionalist.

God forbid we put an evangelical Christian in the White House. Wait - didn’t we do that with George W. Bush? I don’t know. I have my doubts sometimes. Is Huckabee the right candidate for the Republicans? I’m not 100% sold but can you ever be 100% sold on anyone?

I’m more sold on Huckabee’s faith than I am any of the other candidates for office. I’d rather have someone who has a relationship with God almighty in office than I would have someone who does not. Mike Huckabee is either a great actor and a spectacular liar, or he’s the real deal. I’ve agreed with his answers on the subject of intelligent design. I’ve agreed with his answers when it comes to God and country. I’ve agreed with him on the right to life and protecting traditional marriage. I’ve also agreed with what Huckabee has said about getting to heaven: Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and no man comes to the father except through Him. - John 14

So why is their hesitation by so many people lately? I have a couple of theories.

To be fair, Huckabee doesn’t come out as strongly against illegal immigrants as a lot of conservative Americans (myself included) would like. There have also been concerns raised over his fiscal policies. While I am a fiscal conservative, this is secondary in importance to the complicated and pressing moral issues that are affecting our nation.

Is Mike Huckabee the perfect candidate? Nope. Neither is Romney. (He flip flops on social issues). Giuliani’s certainly not the answer. (He’s a social liberal). Fred Thompson hasn’t said or done anything to get excited about (I’m not sure why he’s been so apathetic either.) John McCain is a moderate Washington insider that doesn’t do much for me either.

When it comes down to it, I like Mike!

My second theory as to why there has been a lot of criticism of Huckabee lately: For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. - Ephesians 6:12

There are some awfully strong forces at work trying to take down the Huckabee campaign. The Wall Street Journal, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh - What do they have in common? They’ve all displayed some anti-Huckabee sentiments. I even think there may even be people inside the Huckabee camp that have screwed up or have tried to sabotage his campaign. There is evil in this world, and I’d be more concerned if there weren’t obstacles in Huckabee’s path to the White House.

I understand the hesitation, it’s hard to put your faith in any man. Man is flawed, man is fallible. If I’m going to err I’ll err with someone proclaiming the God of the Bible and someone who is a traditionalist like myself. Call it a leap of faith.
