Democrats attach hate crime legislation to war funding bill: (Our national security faces two simultaneous attacks, both aided by liberals.)
September 29th, 2007 | by admin |I’m well aware of the fact that both political parties have been guilty of including ridiculous earmarks on important pieces of legislation in Congress. I’ve made it a point in the past to single out some of the more ridiculous abuses of the current system to pass laws which is used in government on both the state and federal level. There’s enough pork in Washington and St. Paul to create a bacon welfare system. (Now that’s a novel idea, government funded breakfast!) There is no doubt we need major reform in this area.
Furthermore, it is particularly concerning when you see this type of political gamesmanship used on essential items such as funding our troops. Funding for our bravest and finest deserves an up or down vote without any attachments. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time that the Democrat controlled Congress has played politics with the lives of our brave men and women fighting abroad, nor will it be the last I fear. Earlier this last spring Democrats attached time tables for troop withdrawal to the bill to fund our troops. Now the Democrats are pushing their liberal social agenda and attaching it to funding for our military.
This appalling news leads me to only one conclusion: The Democrats want to destroy America. They have no fear playing games with our national security in fighting terrorism. They’ve proven this over and over again. Now they are also eager to attack our national security on another front: the American family. (See my previous blog post to read why I feel that the destruction of the American family is just as vital to our national security as the elimination of terrorist groups.)
It’s unbelievable to me, how this all ties together. I’m becoming more and more aware of it every day and I hope you are as well. The decline of traditional family values in America, and the unwillingness to stand against evil abroad are leading us down a direct path toward annihilation. The America that you and I love, and the America that has prospered so much over the last two centuries is in mortal danger. Just look at what all three of the front-runners for the Democratic presidential nominee are promoting when it comes to family values.
We have a big problem in America, and the only way we’re going to be able to fix it is to return to a time of family values. (That’s impossible! You might say…) I believe that hard working traditional Americans have the opportunity to lead the way in changing hearts and minds. We have the power politically to put the right people in office to lead our nation. The worst thing you can do is to become apathetic about it all because it feels like an unstoppable force. So I beg of you to pray for our country, pray for our leaders, and do your part to change the tides of immorality in our country. Do your part to support our troops and to fight the forces of evil and enemies of freedom (this includes radical Islam).
So how do you do you help? Maybe it means sending a care package to one of our men and women serving abroad. Maybe it means researching the issues, and then voting and encouraging others to vote. Maybe it means watching your spending habits and not lining the pocket books of those who are producing some of this filth from Hollywood or in the mainstream media. Maybe it’s spending time on your knees in prayer for the future of our nation, and our ability to be a shining light for freedom to other nations around the world. Maybe it’s writing letters to television or movie executives, or politicians, or to local officials. Maybe it’s spending more time with your family and kids and teaching them what’s really important in life. Maybe it’s talking with friends and co-workers about these important issues, and swaying them to your way of thinking not just by words but by example.
There are a ton of examples I could come up with, but you get the idea. Don’t ever take this attack on your great country, on your faith, and on your families sitting down. Stand up and fight for what’s right! I’ll be there to help identify these attacks and encourage you to act.

Could you give a fuller explanation of why you believe that Democrats are trying to destroy America? I don’t think their desire is for Bush to veto the war funding bill; it is for him to sign it so that they can pass a piece of legislation he would not otherwise sign. While I don’t think federal hate crimes legislation is necessary or relevant to this bill, it seems to me to be a political move rather than a diabolical scheme to chip away at family values.

Andy does not have a fuller explanation of why Democrats are destroying America. He is nothing more than hyperbole and assumption. His knowledge of history is shaky at best and his ability to analyze an issue and come to an honest conclusion is skewed because in his mind anything having to do with Democrats must be bad while anything having to do with Republicans must be good. All in all he is little more than a toothless partisan hack with a microphone.
Hi Andy!

Chris - They passed the legislation with the hate crime bill attached to it because they know President Bush won’t sign into law. They’ve done this several times with the funding of the war where they attach things that they know the president won’t support. It’s not funny, it’s downright wrong. You shouldn’t be playing politics when it comes to funding our men and women who are putting their lives on the line.
Political Muse - Liberal Democrats are destroying America by refusing to have any backbone when it comes to fighting evil. If there was this kind of sentiment during World War II we’d all be speaking German. After Normandy we would’ve defunded the war and raised the white flag. When our leaders give up the fight for freedom we are in deep trouble.
Second, social liberals have no qualms letting the morality in our country go down the tubes. In fact they’re encouraging it by endorsing special treatment for those who make choices that for centuries have been found deviant. I’m a firm believer that you make your own decisions in life that affect you, but we as a country should not be endorsing this kind of anti-family behavior.
Third and finally, you continue your habit of showing no class, and resorting to name calling. It really is quite disturbing. Your profile says you teach middle school, are you sure you’re not still in middle school yourself?

You shouldn’t be playing politics when it comes to funding our men and women who are putting their lives on the line.”
From The Hill, Jan. 4, 2006: “Defense Bill Pays for Breathylizers, Lewis and Clark celebrations”
Budget watchdogs warn that the 2006 defense appropriations bill includes more earmarks for questionable projects than ever before.
Several watchdogs argue that the bill is peppered with millions of dollars for museums and national parks, as well as natural resources and roads, projects that at least on the surface, appear to have little to do with military operations.
The 2005 defense appropriations bill contained a record 2,671 parochial and politically motivated earmarks worth $12.2 billion, and the 2006 spending bill is set to surpass that, according to Keith Ashdown, vice president of policy at Taxpayers for Common Sense.
Included in the bill:
* $3.4 million for Lewis and Clark bicentennial activities, sponsored by Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Montana.
* $500,000 for the Arctic Winter Games in Alaska, home of Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, and Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska.
* $900,000 under the heading “Memorial Day,” with no other description.
Oh, did I mention that Republicans were in charge of the Senate and the House when this bill was put together and sent to President Bush, who signed it without hesitation?

This is good Andy! First, you denounce me for name calling, then in the same paragraph you use the same type of name calling that to you is “disturbing”. Do you have any sense of what is coming out of your mouth? You really ought to read my posts on “The Politics of Outrage” because you fit the bill perfectly.

Winston - If you look closely you’ll note that I said that I think funding our men and women deserves an up or down vote in and of itself. I agree with your post that Republicans are also guilty of this.
I think what’s most reprehensible with this current legislation that attaches the hate crimes bill is that it’s a direct attempt to push something through that they know the President is against while forcing his hand to not properly fund our military.
By Chris on Oct 3, 2007
Your last comment implies that the Democrats both want and do not want the President to sign this bill. Which is it?
By Andy Barnett on Oct 3, 2007
Chris - I’m not sure which it is! I know that they are both against the war and funding it (as they have demonstrated since taking over Congress in January) and they are very pro hate crimes legislation (which in effect endorses homosexual behavior and weakens the freedom of those who oppose it).
So either they did this because they know President Bush won’t sign it because of the hate crime legislation and therefore they get to keep him from funding what they refer to as “his war” OR they get their social agenda through by somehow forcing the President to sign it because if he doesn’t they’ll paint him as un-supportive of our troops.
It’s a catch 22 for President Bush and I’d hate to have to make that decision. I think he’ll veto it and demand a war funding bill without divisive social issues being attached to it. I hope that’s what he does anyways.
It’s sad that it has come to this though and this is exactly the kind of political gamesmanship that the far left Democrats are best at.
By Chris on Oct 5, 2007
It is indeed a sorry way to govern people, but that’s the state of the political game today… and you’d better believe that it’s not just the Democrats who pull these shenanigans.
