Democrats attach hate crime legislation to war funding bill: (Our national security faces two simultaneous attacks, both aided by liberals.)

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

I’m well aware of the fact that both political parties have been guilty of including ridiculous earmarks on important pieces of legislation in Congress. I’ve made it a point in the past to single out some of the more ridiculous abuses of the current system to pass laws which is used in government on both the state and federal level. There’s enough pork in Washington and St. Paul to create a bacon welfare system. (Now that’s a novel idea, government funded breakfast!) There is no doubt we need major reform in this area.

Furthermore, it is particularly concerning when you see this type of political gamesmanship used on essential items such as funding our troops. Funding for our bravest and finest deserves an up or down vote without any attachments. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time that the Democrat controlled Congress has played politics with the lives of our brave men and women fighting abroad, nor will it be the last I fear. Earlier this last spring Democrats attached time tables for troop withdrawal to the bill to fund our troops. Now the Democrats are pushing their liberal social agenda and attaching it to funding for our military.

This appalling news leads me to only one conclusion: The Democrats want to destroy America. They have no fear playing games with our national security in fighting terrorism. They’ve proven this over and over again. Now they are also eager to attack our national security on another front: the American family. (See my previous blog post to read why I feel that the destruction of the American family is just as vital to our national security as the elimination of terrorist groups.)

It’s unbelievable to me, how this all ties together. I’m becoming more and more aware of it every day and I hope you are as well. The decline of traditional family values in America, and the unwillingness to stand against evil abroad are leading us down a direct path toward annihilation. The America that you and I love, and the America that has prospered so much over the last two centuries is in mortal danger. Just look at what all three of the front-runners for the Democratic presidential nominee are promoting when it comes to family values.

We have a big problem in America, and the only way we’re going to be able to fix it is to return to a time of family values. (That’s impossible! You might say…) I believe that hard working traditional Americans have the opportunity to lead the way in changing hearts and minds. We have the power politically to put the right people in office to lead our nation. The worst thing you can do is to become apathetic about it all because it feels like an unstoppable force. So I beg of you to pray for our country, pray for our leaders, and do your part to change the tides of immorality in our country. Do your part to support our troops and to fight the forces of evil and enemies of freedom (this includes radical Islam).

So how do you do you help? Maybe it means sending a care package to one of our men and women serving abroad. Maybe it means researching the issues, and then voting and encouraging others to vote. Maybe it means watching your spending habits and not lining the pocket books of those who are producing some of this filth from Hollywood or in the mainstream media. Maybe it’s spending time on your knees in prayer for the future of our nation, and our ability to be a shining light for freedom to other nations around the world. Maybe it’s writing letters to television or movie executives, or politicians, or to local officials. Maybe it’s spending more time with your family and kids and teaching them what’s really important in life. Maybe it’s talking with friends and co-workers about these important issues, and swaying them to your way of thinking not just by words but by example.

There are a ton of examples I could come up with, but you get the idea. Don’t ever take this attack on your great country, on your faith, and on your families sitting down. Stand up and fight for what’s right! I’ll be there to help identify these attacks and encourage you to act.

So there’s sex on TV what’s the big deal? It’s not like it’s a national security threat!

Why are some conservatives (like myself) so upset with the state of sexual imagery in our culture? Are we just a bunch of old fuddy duddies? Some say we are faking it, just a bunch of self-righteous hypocrites! I can’t tell you how many times I hear about a conservative who champions family values and then suddenly gets caught doing exactly the opposite of what they’ve stood against. (Senator Larry Craig comes to mind.)

When this happens, the immediate reaction by some is, “See! I knew it! What a hypocrite! They’re so full of it!”

This is an easy thing to do for most people. It’s also very convenient because it changes the subject from whether or not something is right or wrong to judging an individuals actions.

And just why is it that those who speak the loudest about values are mocked so ardently when they have a personal moral struggle? Do we forget that we are all men and women, flawed, and imperfect?

Every person has had bad thoughts. I’d venture to say everyone has lost his or her temper or told a little lie. Does that mean those things aren’t bad? No, of course not!

If a pastor thinks dirty thoughts, or insults someone, does that mean all of Christianity is null and void? Nope, sorry.

The plain and simple truth is we’re all naturally inclined to make mistakes and do bad things. The state of humanity is such that it’s a struggle to do what is right! It’s much easier to do what’s wrong in a lot of cases. It’s much easier to cheat a little here on your taxes. It’s much easier to give in to lustful thoughts than it is to keep your thoughts and actions pure. Sometimes telling a lie is the easy way out.

Doing what’s right isn’t easy but it doesn’t invalidate the principle!

The reason some conservatives like myself are so upset by the increased sexual imagery (along with other areas of moral decline in our culture) is threefold:

For one thing, I personally don’t appreciate all the filth I’m tempted by everywhere I look. I’ll admit that, I don’t care for it personally. Second, I sure as heck don’t want my kids some day to be bombarded with this junk on television, the Internet, billboards, magazines racks at the grocery store, lyrics to music on the radio, and more. Third (and finally) I’m gravely concerned with our countries future. You see, unlike libertarians and even those that are solely fiscal conservatives, I see this decadence as a direct threat to our national security.

It’s an attack on the family which is the bedrock of civilization and American. How is it an attack? The mainstream sentiment is that marriage is rather old fashioned. The message is clear. Why not just live together? Let me ask you this, have you ever seen the numbers on couples who live together before getting married or who never get married? Numbers don’t lie and they aren’t pretty. Co-habitation outside of marriage leads to greater risks of divorce and family instability. Furthermore, the culture widely portrays sexual promiscuity and recreational sex as the norm. Sure there are efforts underway to educate people about pregnancy and STD’s but do they address the emotional damage done by casual intercourse? You know what else our society does? It devalues women under the guise of empowering them. Pornography is now accepted as mainstream material. The messages are very blunt. Dress like a slut and you’ll be popular, cool, and get all the boys attention. This turns women into pieces of meat, and leads many to get into relationships based on physical attraction alone which, as we all know, fades with time. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a beautiful woman as much as anyone else, but I’m well aware that beauty is skin deep. I could go on with other examples that put the traditional family at risk including homosexuality, alcoholism, drug use, a disregard for the sanctity of life, and others. Not to worry though, I won’t belabor the point.

Another interesting and sad side-effect to the decline of moral standards in American society is the reaction from other cultures. The Muslim world comes to mind. They see see this garbage from the American media. They see it in the filthy movies coming from Hollywood, and over the Internet and they think that this must be how all Americans are. That’s the America they see! Not a shining city on a hill, not a beacon of freedom and democracy, but a pit of vulgar offensive trash. They have visual evidence! Is it any wonder that that extremists refer to America as the “great satan of the west”?

Now I’m not saying that this is the only reason that Muslim extremists hate us. There are dictators, madmen, and terrorists throughout the Muslim world that want to kill us because they hate the idea of freedom. They don’t like the idea of religious choice, or free speech, or political democracy. However you can’t tell me that they don’t get sympathy from other devout followers of Islam by showing our pop culture as an example of what will happen to their families if we are not destroyed! I’m telling you it’s not a stretch to argue that our moral crisis in American culture is a threat to our national security and I mean that.

Do you agree? Do you think I’m nuts? Please don’t hesitate to tell me. The other question you might be asking is something along the lines of, “Yeah you make a good point, but what can we do?” You can do your best to raise your kids right. You can speak loudly with how you spend your money and who you put into office. You can join social groups that advocate change in Hollywood and in the media. You can reach out to the Muslim people and the rest of the world and show them the good things about America. The worst thing you can do though is to shrug your shoulders, sigh, and do nothing. So get out there and fight for what’s right America!

Could there still be sports organizations with principles and family values?

I’ve got an interesting story to tell. As many of you know I’m from Kansas City originally and I follow the Kansas City Chiefs quite a bit. At the end of last week a story broke and made it all the way to ESPN about a rap song supposedly sung by Larry Johnson, pro-bowl running back for the Chiefs. This song featured talk of guns and violence and tons of racial slurs and the f-word. It also references and insults the Chiefs General Manager and running back Priest Holmes. I was unhappy as a fan, and disappointed as a social commentator. Here we have another celebrity acting poorly and setting the worst kind of example to millions of kids who look up to him.

Well since that incident, there has been no conclusive evidence linking the song to Larry Johnson and he has denied it was him. The Chiefs organization has dropped the matter at that. I understand there’s really not much else that can be done at this point. During the midst of the discussion and while it was looking very much like there was evidence linking it to Johnson, I decided to make a phone call to the Chiefs. My family has been season ticket holders since the early 90’s and so I left a voice mail expressing how disappointed I was with the actions by the player. I never expected to hear anything back, and I would not be writing this article now if I hadn’t.

This morning I received a phone call from the head of the Kansas City Chiefs Public Relations, Bob Moore. He apologized and told me that the organization and the Hunt family doesn’t stand for that kind of music or the message it portrays. He explained to me that the Hunts are strong Christians and go out of their way to keep things family friendly at Arrowhead Stadium and specifically ban that type of music from being played. Needless to say, I’m impressed. I thought it worth sharing that in the world of professional sports, celebrities, big corporate money, and so on that there are still those who are dictated by principles. So I want to say a thank you the Hunt family and to Bob Moore and I hope that they’ll do everything in their power to keep the Chiefs as family friendly as possible in the future.

Minnesotans wake up! Learn how family values can be trashed by judicial activism, in Iowa of all places!

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Family values are once again under attack. If it can happen in Iowa, where farmers abound in the heart of the Midwest, it could easily happen in Minnesota. The assault on traditional marriage by a small minority of Americans continues to defy the will of the people and activist judges are at the heart of the controversy. Read this article and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s a wake up call for Minnesotans!

The Culture War Continues, MTV is out to destroy what is left of traditional American values.

I believe people should have the freedom to make decisions about moral issues that affect their lives. I’m not going to tell you that you have to do this or have to do that. As long as it doesn’t trample on my rights, the choice is yours to make. Now does that mean I’m going to keep how I feel about these issues a secret? No way. I’ll tell you what I think, and you can decide for yourself. That’s usually how it goes.

It goes that way with smoking for instance. I’ll tell you that I don’t think you should smoke. It causes lung cancer, it’s not healthy, and in my opinion you shouldn’t do it. I’m not going to call for laws to be made to keep you from doing it though.

The same can be said for irresponsible casual sex. I think you’re an idiot if you are just sleeping around for the fun of it. It shows a lack of respect for yourself and for whoever you’re sleeping with. I personally think sex was intended for marriage and I think you’ll be happier in the long run if you would save it for marriage. Does that mean I want anyone to come in and make you behave this way or that? Absolutely not, that’s your decision. I felt it necessary to preface what I’m about to say, with what I just said.

We have a real problem in our country. I don’t envy parents right now. I’m not one yet, but I know that if and when I do have kids, it’s going to take a lot of work to protect them from the forces of immorality at work in our culture. One of the biggest offenders in this culture war is MTV. MTV in case you haven’t watched it since the 1980’s is not a channel featuring music videos anymore. It’s a channel with all sorts of raunchy programming. For years now it has featured programs that push sexual promiscuity. These programs target pre-teens and teenagers. Programs like Laguna Beach, Undressed, and others. (If you’re not familiar with these programs and your kids watch them, you might listen up!) This is nothing new, this network has been pushing irresponsible, recreational, casual sex for years. I would highly advise parents to lock out MTV on their televisions.

(The MTV Music Video awards just aired, and if you want a perfect example of what this network stands for all you have to do is look at the filth that aired during that show. Including Brittney Spears running around in lingerie and suggestively dancing with men and women, plus overtly crass sexual jokes by comedian Sarah Silverman. Mind you, this is a television network that targets kids. Did you know the awards show even made big press? It made headlines talking about Brittney Spears possibly ruining her career. Not because she was dancing around in scantily clad clothing practically having sex on stage, no that is perfectly fine. It was because she was overweight while doing so. How sick and shallow has the media and Hollywood and all of the entertainment industry become?)

If any of what I’ve talked about in regards to MTV wasn’t enough, now they’ve gone a step farther. They’re now behind a new show that will be airing on the network promoting bi-sexual dating. Click here to read about it. I started doing some research and found out that MTV is the company that owns and operates another television network “LOGO” which is a gay and lesbian television channel. They also happen to own and operate Nickelodeon. Is anyone else a little suspicious about a corporation that produces such filth also operating a children’s network? I’d be putting the channel lock feature on LOGO, MTV, and Nickelodeon if I were you folks.

Now I’m not calling for censorship, or for these networks to be forced off the air. (Although I’d certainly like obscenity laws to be looked at very hard when it comes to these networks.) I’m merely writing all this to tell you how I feel about it, and to make parents aware of the kind of filth on basic cable television. It’s very easy to not police the television, and I think that it’s a huge job parents need to do! Kids are bombarded with sexual images and perverted messages, and that doesn’t even address the violence, bad language, and other questionable material that families are subject to all of the time. This world is not a friendly place. It may have been back in the 1950’s but it’s not now. In fact, it’s worse than ever.

The St. Cloud Times promotes the defeatist mentality, displays a lack of patriotism, and offends civilians and military men and women.

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

“Instead of focusing on the sixth anniversary of 9/11, the nation heard from the president’s top general about a war that really has little to do with that fateful day six years ago.”

That quote, is from an article in the St. Cloud Times on the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. This is absolutely without a doubt defeatist talk, un-American talk, and frankly offensive talk. What else can you expect from the mainstream media which is run by the left? On a day remembering the worst attack against the United States on our own soil, ugly partisan politics are being blatantly shoved down the throats of Americans by the media and left-wing activists and politicians.

The war in Iraq has little to do with 9/11? How in the world can you make such an asinine statement? You really don’t get it do you Mr. Krebs? (Randy Krebs is the Opinion Editor at the St. Cloud Times.) The war in Iraq has everything in the world to do with 9/11! We are in a war with radical Islam. We are in a war against terrorists. We are in a war against Al Quaeda. We are fighting all of these forces in Iraq right now!

Whether or not you agree or disagree with the strategy of opening the Iraq front as a theater of war at the time we did is not the issue. Perhaps we spread our forces too thin. It’s easy to be a Monday morning quarter back. Hind sight is 20/20. Look, the fact is we are facing the enemy right now. We are in a battle against the face of evil.

With all of that said, it’s every-one’s right to question our strategy going forward. Progress reports are important. In fact politicians, media pundits, and activists were calling for an official report from our general on the ground. This was just a few months ago. Now that we are presented with a report that shows progress what happens? The left-wing nuts in the media, in office, and activists are up in arms! What! We can’t be winning this fight? This can’t be right. So let’s discredit the report! Let’s strip General Petraeus of any ounce of credibility. Let’s denounce this work by our men and women fighting overseas!

The MoooveOn.org crowd is on the full offensive. The left-wing media (including the St. Cloud Times) is also pushing this agenda. If these folks were around during the Revolutionary War, World War I, World War II, etc… We probably wouldn’t be here now. Our freedom would’ve been stripped, and the United States would’ve been a story in the history books. They have about as much resolve as Vikings fans!

These left wing nuts need to be shipped to Canada. They’re not acting like Americans. In fact, maybe Mr. Krebs should make that trek? It’s not that far you know. Maybe we can relocate the St. Cloud Times and change their name to the Winnipeg Times?
