Tolerating Christians: Not Okay. Tolerating Muslims: Yes of course!

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Are you ready for another example of Christians being discriminated against while followers of Islam are allowed to as they please? It happens all the time, this time courtesy of the Brits…

The London Times
Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

A teenage girl who was banned by her school from wearing a “purity ring” is taking her case to the High Court.

Lydia Playfoot, 16, is a member of a Christian group called the Silver Ring Thing and one of a number of students at the Millais School in Horsham, West Sussex, who wears a silver ring engraved with a Biblical reference — “1 Thes 434,” a reference to St. Paul’s Letter to the Thessalonians — as a sign of their belief in abstinence from sex until marriage.

She claims that her secondary school is breaching her human rights by preventing her from wearing the ring, while allowing Muslim and Sikh students to wear head scarfs and religious bangles.

So what’s the deal? Why is the “tolerance crowd” only tolerant of that which it deems worthy of tolerance?

(Mind you Christianity is never worth tolerating to this crowd!)

Such obvious hypocrisy reeks! Yet, it continues every day and if you ask me only further proves that Christianity might be worth taking a look at for those of you looking for answers.

Didn’t Jesus say, “In this world you will have trouble?”

Every time I read a story about Christians being discriminated against or worse it makes me scratch my head and ask the question why are Christians the ones being blasted while for the most part other religions get off the hook? What do you think?

Is free speech in danger? Only if you’re a dirty conservative!

I better write this now, before I’m silenced for having an opinion! You think I’m kidding? How close are we to the Government controlling public debate? The idea is very seriously being considered by the far left in Congress due to the overwhelming force of talk radio and talk radio listeners who by and large happen to be conservative. Never mind that the other mainstream media on broadcast networks, cable news channels, and the print media slant to the left, and outnumber those on the right by a huge amount! Apparently that’s not good enough, the Democrats are freaked out because of the new media.

They are freaked out because they don’t have the stranglehold on information they once had. They especially don’t like people like you and I to think for ourselves! That could be devastating to their cause, in fact, they’re losing this game so what do they want to do? Instead of trying harder, they want to change the rules! They want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine allowing for equal sides of each issue to be presented in any broadcast medium.

Why don’t they try harder and try to start left-wing liberal talk radio? Because it has failed! They don’t have an enticing message, the market doesn’t exist for it. Look at Air America. Need I say more? So instead of letting the free market determine what should and shouldn’t be broadcast the left wants to have the government control it.

Read on… caution this is scary stuff!

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., is “looking at” bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, a controversial policy designed to ensure equal time for all political viewpoints on radio, but criticized by many as resulting in the opposite result.

When asked by Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday” if she would revive the measure, said, “Well, I’m looking at it, as a matter of fact, Chris, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way.”

Wallace pointed out, “But the argument would be it’s the marketplace, and if liberals want to put on their own talk radio, they can put it on. At this point, they don’t seem to be able to find much of a market.”

Feinstein responded: “Well, apparently, there have been problems. It is growing. But I do believe in fairness. I remember when there was a fairness doctrine, and I think there was much more serious correct reporting to people.” The Democrat said talk radio tends to be one-sided. “It also tends to be dwelling in hyperbole. It’s explosive. It pushes people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of information.”

Among the targets of leftist Democrats is conservative champion Rush Limbaugh, the most-listened to host in the history of talk radio, who has railed against in the Fairness Doctrine for years.

Tax my gas, tax my $@#!!!

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

I ran across this story, and I found it rather interesting. I’m almost always in favor of less government sticking their noses in our lives, including when it comes to the gas pump!

With summer travel in full gear and motorists more conscious of the price of gasoline than ever before, few Americans realize that up to 60 cents of the cost per gallon is the result of local, state and federal taxes.

In fact, despite allegations of price-gouging, some retailers say they are actually losing money on every gallon they pump. State, local and federal taxes make up about 20 percent of the cost paid at the pump, according to Conoco Phillips, an international, integrated energy company. So, while many tend to assume major gas companies are hugely profiting when gas prices peak, this may not be the case. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, when the average price of regular unleaded gas peaked at $3 per gallon in 2006, most major companies were profiting only about 10 cents per gallon on refining and marketing options, while the federal tax alone is as much as 18.4 cents per gallon.

As of March, the national average gasoline tax is 45.8 cents. New York has the highest gas tax at 60.8 cents at the pump, with Hawaii just behind costing 60.2 cents per gallon, according to the American Petroleum Institute. Gas taxes include federal, averaging 18.4 cents per gallon; state, averaging 18.2 cents per gallon; and additional taxes costing an average of 9.15 cents per gallon. The additional taxes include applicable sales taxes, gross receipts taxes, oil inspection fees, underground storage tank fees and other environmental fees.

New York assemblymen presented a proposal to the state legislature advocating a gas tax cut. However, concerns have been raised that a hole will open in the state’s budget that cannot be filled. Republican advocates argue that increased tourism caused by the ability to travel more cheaply because of lower gas prices will fill the $200-$300 million dollar gap.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry supported a proposal to lower the gas tax by 20 cents over the summer. The proposal passed in the state House of Representatives, but was pushed aside in the Texas Senate.

Another effort to decrease the amount paid is the so-called “tax holiday” at the pump. Several states have considered proposals for “tax holidays” that would be a period of time with no gas tax. A bill was presented to Congress last week that would suspend gas tax during price spikes above $3 per gallon. Rolling back tax breaks for major oil companies would make up for any lost revenue.

In Connecticut as well, a gas tax relief proposal was offered by the Republican minority but quickly swept under the rug by the Democrat majority, despite its support from Gov. M. Jodi Rell.

Taxes on gasoline vary from state to state. In Alaska, the gas tax is only 26.4 cents, the lowest gas tax in the nation. New York’s gas tax is more than twice as much. The gas tax isn’t the only element that increases prices at the pump. But it remains one of the most significant factors in high-priced gasoline. California, for example, has extensive environmental restrictions that require the state to use an expensive blend of gasoline. At the same time, the cost in some Midwestern states is far higher because delivery costs are higher.

This little piggy went to market, this little piggy had safe sex?!

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

There is a new controversial ad for condoms that involves life-like animated pigs. So what’s the big deal with it? Read on…

Fox, CBS Ban Pig ‘Condom’ Ad

The Fox and CBS networks have both declined to air an ad for Trojan condoms that features cellphone-carrying pigs on the prowl.

The ad depicts women in a bar surrounded by cellphone-toting pigs.

One of the swine heads off to the men’s room where it obtains a condom from a vending machine — and “is transformed into a head-turner in his 20s,” The New York Times reports. “When he returns to the bar, a fetching blonde who had been indifferent now smiles at him invitingly.”

The commercial is part of a new ad campaign by Trojan called “evolve.” The message: “Evolve. Use a condom every time.”

In rejecting the ad, Fox sent a written response to Trojan that read: “Contraceptive advertising must stress health-related uses rather than the prevention of pregnancy.”

CBS wrote that it did not find the ad “appropriate for our network even with late-night-only restrictions.”

The commercial will air on ABC, NBC, and nine cable networks, as well as in magazines and on Web sites.

At first I just kind of went, “Yeah whatever…” when I heard about this ad. Then I saw it, and I can kinda get why it’s controversial. First, the whole animated life-like pigs get your attention, they also get the attention of kids. The message being portrayed is that the human race should “evolve” and use condoms every time you have sex. The ad also insinuates that meeting a woman at a bar will lead to a sexual experience right away. I don’t know about you, but that hardly sounds like evolving. It looks to me like: “Go have sex with whoever you want like pigs but use a condom.” That’s a great message to send to our kids!

The other part I have a problem with is why should two loving adults in a committed marriage always need to use a condom? Because that’s not who they’re targeting! It’s just another message sent out that casual flings and meaningless sex are perfectly fine!

Hey do what you want with your life, but I get upset when that message is being shoved down our throats by the media and especially when it could clearly grab the attention of a child watching.

Here’s a link to the commercial, but I wouldn’t let the little ones watch it. Click here.

First Degree Hugging Charge Lands Student in Principle’s Office

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Do you remember a time when kids got in trouble for chewing gum in school? When fist fights took place not gun fights? Maybe the reason kids are having such a hard time expressing themselves in today’s schools is because some educators won’t let kids be kids anymore… Maybe they’re having a hard time paying attention, so let’s drug them up! We sure wouldn’t want any horse play so let’s outlaw any touching whatsoever!

Fairfax County middle school student Hal Beaulieu hopped up from his lunch table one day a few months ago, sat next to his girlfriend and slipped his arm around her shoulder. That landed him a trip to the school office. Among his crimes: hugging.

All touching — not only fighting or inappropriate touching — is against the rules at Kilmer Middle School in Vienna. Hand-holding, handshakes and high-fives? Banned. The rule has been conveyed to students this way: “NO PHYSICAL CONTACT!!!!!”

School officials say the rule helps keep crowded hallways and lunchrooms safe and orderly, and ensures that all students are comfortable. But Hal, 13, and his parents think the school’s hands-off approach goes too far, and they are lobbying for a change.

Good Lord Almighty, no wonder kids are having problems expressing themselves and developing social skills. We’re not letting them be kids anymore instead they’re supposed to be robots who sit in cubicles and keep their hands to themselves. Shaking hands, hugging, hi-fives, these are normal experiences for boys and girls growing up and now they’re off limits? This is just bizarre.

Hamas, Fata, does it really matter, don’t they both want to destroy Israel and the west?

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Not to beat a dead horse (by the way who came up with that expression?) but I do believe one of the greatest challenges of our time is facing radical Islam head on. That fact resonated again this morning when we heard on Hot Talk from Professor Richard Landes from Boston University who has been studying the Middle East and the Gaza Strip extensively.

Professor Landes is concerned because the U.S. has a history of throwing money at our enemies in hopes that they will cooperate and be appeased. Such is the case right now as we arm one faction of the Palestinians (Fata) so they can defeat the other faction (Hamas). I’m concerned that this is a poor strategy and that we should have learned our lesson from examples in recent history that this is not wise. A great example would be arming the Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban to fight the Soviets only to see them use our own weapons against us.

The other concerned raised by the professor is the prevailing wisdom and progressive thought that western democracies have to act apologetic when it comes to dealing with radical Islam. Political correctness is not going to work when the enemy has no desire to have peace, and has no desire to communicate, but only wants to slay all of the infidels. When you can strap a bomb to your own child and send them to commit suicide to kill your enemies we have a real problem.

Finally Professor Landes also noted that it is common for westerners to put Israel on the same level as the radical Muslims and call this an even fight. Anyone who does this should be ashamed of themselves. Israelis aren’t the ones killing innocents using children and weapons of mass destruction. We need to throw our full weight behind supporting Israel in this conflict and others, and we need to stand up against this radical ideology wherever we face it including the Gaza strip.
