Is free speech in danger? Only if you’re a dirty conservative!

June 25th, 2007 | by admin |

I better write this now, before I’m silenced for having an opinion! You think I’m kidding? How close are we to the Government controlling public debate? The idea is very seriously being considered by the far left in Congress due to the overwhelming force of talk radio and talk radio listeners who by and large happen to be conservative. Never mind that the other mainstream media on broadcast networks, cable news channels, and the print media slant to the left, and outnumber those on the right by a huge amount! Apparently that’s not good enough, the Democrats are freaked out because of the new media.

They are freaked out because they don’t have the stranglehold on information they once had. They especially don’t like people like you and I to think for ourselves! That could be devastating to their cause, in fact, they’re losing this game so what do they want to do? Instead of trying harder, they want to change the rules! They want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine allowing for equal sides of each issue to be presented in any broadcast medium.

Why don’t they try harder and try to start left-wing liberal talk radio? Because it has failed! They don’t have an enticing message, the market doesn’t exist for it. Look at Air America. Need I say more? So instead of letting the free market determine what should and shouldn’t be broadcast the left wants to have the government control it.

Read on… caution this is scary stuff!

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., is “looking at” bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, a controversial policy designed to ensure equal time for all political viewpoints on radio, but criticized by many as resulting in the opposite result.

When asked by Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday” if she would revive the measure, said, “Well, I’m looking at it, as a matter of fact, Chris, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way.”

Wallace pointed out, “But the argument would be it’s the marketplace, and if liberals want to put on their own talk radio, they can put it on. At this point, they don’t seem to be able to find much of a market.”

Feinstein responded: “Well, apparently, there have been problems. It is growing. But I do believe in fairness. I remember when there was a fairness doctrine, and I think there was much more serious correct reporting to people.” The Democrat said talk radio tends to be one-sided. “It also tends to be dwelling in hyperbole. It’s explosive. It pushes people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of information.”

Among the targets of leftist Democrats is conservative champion Rush Limbaugh, the most-listened to host in the history of talk radio, who has railed against in the Fairness Doctrine for years.
