eHarmony Sued for Excluding Gays

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

By Jill Serjeant

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The popular online dating service eHarmony was sued on Thursday for refusing to offer its services to gays, lesbians and bisexuals.

A lawsuit alleging discrimination based on sexual orientation was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of Linda Carlson, who was denied access to eHarmony because she is gay.

Lawyers bringing the action said they believed it was the first lawsuit of its kind against eHarmony, which has long rankled the gay community with its failure to offer a “men seeking men” or “women seeking women” option.

To my knowledge there is no federal law that includes “sexual orientation” as a protected group. The issue here seems to be a California discrimination law of some sort that does include that defined group? I’m kind of confused. Are private organizations not allowed to make decisions based on what they feel is a moral issue? I find that very disturbing, and another example of a slippery slope.

I talked to one legal analyst who thinks this case will basically go nowhere, but is simply being used to put a face to a cause. It’s all about being intolerant toward those who don’t believe what the tolerant crowd believes. Bold faced hypocrisy!

When, if ever, can people of Judeo-Christian faith, break the law?

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

As far as I can tell - it’s not very often. I did some contemplative thinking this afternoon after our discussion this morning on various different church’s harboring undocumented illegal workers. This was sparked not only by our conversation but also by an e-mail from a listener. I’ve come to the conclusion that unless the law prevents you from knowing God and making Him known, it should be followed. Let me clarify however, that those issues should never be a problem because of the rights guaranteed to us in the constitution. Personally as a Christian, I break down my priorities in this order: Faith, family, country. My faith just so happens to make mention of following the rule of law. Let me quote the Bible:

Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. - Romans 13:1

So, I encourage everyone to follow the rule of law. If the law is inadequate, or unjustified, then let us work to change that law. Debate on this issue is not only helpful, it’s a vital part of the the democratic process. The Bible also speaks specifically of aiding others in need, just look at the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37.) I think the best way we can help illegal immigrants is to treat them with respect as humans, and encourage them to follow the laws that govern our lands, rather than aide them in breaking the law.

Is a Google Boycott in order?

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I’m always wary of calling for a boycott because I’m not sure how effective they can be. For instance, today on the show we talked about Google and how they’re stirring up some controversy with their political agenda, their information gathering, and their lack of respect for our Veterans…

Do you realize how much I use Google’s products? I use them for e-mail, I use them for their calendar program, heck, I use them for this blog! Should I even try to boycott Google, it would be very difficult to not use their search engine.

Last week the CEO of Google came out and said they want to collect information on people so that they can help make decisions for them in different areas of their life. Does that sound like “Big Brother” Google to you? It kind of does to me. They also have for nine straight years neglected to put a holiday logo up for Memorial Day or Veterans Day, while they change their logo for such holidays as Earth Day, Halloween, the birthday of Ray Charles, and more… Why such disrespect for our country and our military? Frankly, I don’t know, and it is rather bothersome. They also continue to show their political agenda by blocking some types of links and allowing other types of links within their search engine. Did you know they’ve refused to link to sites that criticize extreme Islam, but will link to sites featuring homosexual pornography? There are plenty of other examples, but suffice it to say, Google does seem to have an agenda!

What can we do to make our voices heard when it comes to these issues? Well we could try a boycott, or we could inundate the people at Google with our concerns… I think the latter is in order first, so please feel free to fire away your complaints and concerns toward management at Google. I know I will! Here’s their contact information:

Tuesday’s Idiot of the Day: A Great Example of the Culture War

A guest speaker at an assembly at Boulder High School in Colorado has told students as young as 14 to go have sex and use drugs, prompting school officials to say they will investigate.

The instructions came from Joel Becker, an associate clinical professor of psychology at the University of California at Los Angeles.

“I am going to encourage you to have sex and encourage you to use drugs appropriately,” Becker said during his appearance at the school as part of a recent panel sponsored by the University of Colorado’s Conference on World Affairs.

“Why I am going to take that position is because you are going to do it anyway,” he continued. “I think as a psychologist and health educator, it is more important to educate you in a direction that you might actually stick to. So, I am going to stay mostly on with the sex side because that is the area I know more about. I want to encourage you to all have healthy, sexual behavior.”

Okay, so this was our “Idiot of the Day” today. I don’t think it needs much explanation really. You wonder why our culture is going down the tube. I know I sound like an old man, the same type who was barking back in the 60’s and 70’s but I’m telling you this culture war is much more advanced than what started back then. We’re talking about the complete deterioration of the family. We’re talking about increases in sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, and a generation that is no longer shocked by warped views on sexuality and violence that are prevelant in the media and pop culture. Furthermore, it is no longer cool to say something is wrong, it’s all about feeling good, doesn’t matter what it is or whether or not it damages others or yourself in the long run.

If we’re going to turn this around more people are going to have to express outrage at these types of events when they happen.

Immigration and Illegal Immigration - A Summary of Thoughts

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Well I’ve been asked to put together my thoughts on illegal immigration and immigration as a whole. They are two seperate issues and I can’t throw them into one category no matter how hard I try.

The issue of illegal immigration as I’ve pointed out on the air and in my writings, really has to do with the first word in that term: illegal. If something is illegal, I believe we should not tolerate it. We live in a society which does not respect right and wrong. Society does not respect the letter of the law, and I’ve got a problem with it! That automatically is going to irritate a few people. Does my stance mean I have always followed the law? Nope. Does it mean I always do what’s right? I wish I could say yes! My point is not to judge those who break the rules, instead I want to get after those who don’t believe there should be any rules in the first place! I have an intolerance for the tolerance of what is wrong!

Whew, I’m glad I’ve got that off my chest. I just had to summarize it in very simple form, and now we can talk about the issue of immigration.

When it comes to immigration there are a wide range of things to be considered. I’ll try to break them down in to different categories. Fasten your seat belt, here we go!

National Security
I think first and foremost we have to consider the security of our country. We live in a much different world since 9/11. I know there are people out there who would just assume that terrible attack didn’t happen, but it did and we ought not forget it! My hope is you feel the same way as I do. I love our country and I believe we need to put our national security near the top of the list when it comes to political priorities. Wide open borders, and a lack of enforcement on international visitors who have overstayed their visas scares me. This is not because I think everyone who comes from another country is bad, in fact most are good people. My concern has to do with the fact that those who may want to harm us (IE; Al Quaeda, Iran, North Korea, etc…) could easily have access to our country. How unreasonable is it to think that a terror cell could be forming in a neighborhood near you? How unreasonable is it to think that a foreign national from a country we have strained relations with is spying on our military secrets? Wait, both of those have happened in the recent past! It’s scary isn’t it?

The Economy
What is the effect of immigration on the economy? Frankly I don’t know. I’m no economics professor and I haven’t studied sociology much. Honestly I hear a lot about the loss of American jobs, and I don’t want to sound unsympathetic to those causes, but I do believe in a free market and I do believe in competition. I’m not that afraid because I have faith in my ability to work hard and my ability to use my God given talents to succeed. I know there are many unanswered questions, and I know my dismissal of this issue will anger some, but until I see more research that shows we’re all going to end up living in card board boxes I’m a little reluctant to believe it. As far as low wages are concerned, look at what Wal-Mart’s doing and it doesn’t seem to be killing our economy does it?

Charity and Families
It’s no secret, I’m a Christian, and I believe we should love our neighbors. Whether they are black or white, American or Mexican, Christian or Muslim, I believe we are called to love others and it is through that love that we show the character that built this nation to be the great country it is. Another tennet of Christianity is following the law of the land. I believe in peaceful enforcement of the laws. What I mean by that is the use of excessive force or terror should be avoided when dealing with crimes like illegal immigration. There’s no reason to terrorize a community or tear apart a family over immigration violations. I understand there are exceptions when dealing with tougher crimes such as drug dealing, murder, rape, etc… Protecting the lives of the authorities is also vital to succesfully enforcing the law. Now that I’ve made that clear, I want you to know that I don’t think anyone should aid and abette law breakers. I think that the right thing to do would be to encourage law-breakers to follow the law and go about trying to become a legal citizen. Let me give you an example that has been shared with me many times: A child is born in the United States to illegal immigrants, that child is a citizen based on his or her birth in our nation. The parents are deported but the government decides that the child stays. This is wrong, the parents should make the decision for the child, not the government. The child should be sent home with the parents unless the parents agree to let the child stay here with a guardian.

Conclusion
The details behind immigration law, and dealing with undocumented workers are beyond my total scope of knowledge. I’ve outlined what I believe are the basic principles that should be considered when drawing attention to either of these issues. This is obviously a hot topic, which is why we’ve brought it up on Hot Talk. I want to encourage anyone with other thoughts and ideas to please share them and let’s have a civil discussion on these two issues of illegal immigration and immigration.

Global Warming brainwashing continues across the globe

Kevin Libin, National PostPublished: Saturday, May 19, 2007

First it was his world history class. Then he saw it in his economics class. And his world issues class. And his environment class. In total, 18-year-old McKenzie, a Northern Ontario high schooler, says he has had the film An Inconvenient Truth shown to him by four different teachers this year.

“I really don’t understand why they keep showing it,” says McKenzie (his parents asked that his last name not be used). “I’ve spoken to the principal about it, and he said that teachers are instructed to present it as a debate. But every time we’ve seen it, well, one teacher said this is basically a two-sided debate, but this movie really gives you the best idea of what’s going on.”

McKenzie says he has educated himself enough about both sides of the climate- change controversy to know that the Al Gore movie is too one-sided to be taught as fact. Even scientists who back Mr. Gore’s message admit they’re uncomfortable with liberties the politician takes with “science” in the film. But, McKenzie says most of his classmates are credulous. His teachers are not much more discerning. “They don’t know there’s another side to the argument,” he says.

McKenzie’s mother was outraged to find out that Mr. Gore’s film was being presented as fact in her son’s classroom. “This is just being poured into kids’ brains instead of letting them know there’s a debate going on,” she says. “An educational system falls down when they start taking one side.”

But Mr. Gore’s filmed climate-change lecture is showing up in classrooms across Canada, frequently unaccompanied by critical analysis or a discussion of competing theories. “One of the teachers at my kid’s school showed it and he even said ahead of time, ‘There is some propaganda in this,’ ” says Tim Patterson, a Carleton University earth sciences professor. “I said to him, ‘You even knew this was a propaganda film, and you still showed it in your classroom?’ ” The weirdest part: It was the gym teacher.

If you have children in junior or high school, there is a good chance they have been shown An Inconvenient Truth in school–or they will be soon.

I’m all about being good stewards of our environment, but this Global Warming Propoganda is out of control! It silences true debate, and our youth are being indoctrinated with it… What’s the agenda behind it all? Power? Money? Anti-Capitalism Ideas? I think it’s a little of all of the above… Have your kids been shown AlGore’s Science Fiction film in school yet?

Jimmy Carter is off his rocker…

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - The White House on Sunday fired back at former President Jimmy Carter, calling him “increasingly irrelevant” a day after Carter described George W. Bush’s presidency as the worst in history in international relations.

Carter, a Democrat, said on Saturday in an interview with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that “as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history.”

White House spokesman Tony Fratto had declined to react on Saturday but on Sunday fired back. “I think it’s sad that President Carter’s reckless personal criticism is out there,” Fratto told reporters. “I think it’s unfortunate. And I think he is proving to be increasingly irrelevant with these kinds of comments.”

Carter has been an outspoken critic of Bush, but the White House has largely refrained from attacking him in return. Sunday’s sharp response marks a departure from the deference that sitting presidents traditionally have shown their predecessors.

In the newspaper interview, Carter said Bush had taken a “radical departure from all previous administration policies” with the Iraq war. “We now have endorsed the concept of pre-emptive war where we go to war with another nation militarily, even though our own security is not directly threatened, if we want to change the regime there or if we fear that some time in the future our security might be endangered,” Carter said.

Hmm… Why don’t we ask France if radical Islam is a direct threat… Why don’t we ask Israel if radical Islam is a direct threat… Why don’t we ask the families of those who perished at the Pentagon and at the World Trade Center if radical Islam is a direct threat…
